After his release from prison, Mafia capo Dwight “The General”; Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely characters. Sylvester Stallone’s first lead role in a television series.
The opening credit sequence shows various photographic and painted views as well as Oklahoma landmarks imposed on the New York City landscape: A statue of the Sioux Indian chief “Touch the Clouds”; wearing a War Bonnet and a Bone Choker imposed over the Brooklyn BridgeGolden Driller Statue imposed on the Statue of LibertyRoute 66 Western Gateway Arch imposed on a major “Avenue” in Manhattan. In New York City, in the Borough of Manhattan, which are several numbered “Avenues”; which are crossed by smaller numbered streets..
Sympathetic and relatively deep characters, plausible plot, tolerable pacing are the driving forces behind this show. Stallone is good to be the main protagonist, but I really like Andrea Savage and her character, very nice performance.
I really respected that Stallone doesn’t try to look younger when his character, Dwight, candidly mentions his age and how it might affect his relationships with the younger woman. The cinematography and music are nothing to write home about, both are good enough to help carry the show.
My review makes the show look pretty average, however I rate it 8/10 because it’s a solid entertainer, not a TV/Cinema masterpiece or tour de force..
