Since her younger brother Tim drowned in Trieste, Paula has lost the will to live. When she meets old Helmut, a widower who wants to take his dead wife’s ashes to South Tyrol, she sees a solution: go to Trieste and commit suicide on Tim’s birthday. However, during the journey with Helmut, an unexpected friendship develops and his will to live is reborn.
